Get To Know Morzine

Morzine is located in the French Alps in the Haute-Savoie department of south-eastern France. The village sits in the mountains between the ski resorts Les Gets and Avoriaz and is close to the Switzerland border. Morzine is about an hour and 15 minutes away by car from Geneva Airport in Switzerland. Lake Geneva is just 45 minutes away.

Morzine is one of the main resorts in Les Portes du Soleil, an international ski area that straddles the Swiss and French border. It’s the largest of its kind in the world, representing 12 alpine resorts across France and Switzerland.

The nearest airport to Morzine is Geneva Airport over the border in Switzerland. The transfer time from there is approximately one hour and 15 minutes, weather conditions permitting. Hunter Chalets customers can book private or group transfers to their chalet, just ask our concierge team and we can arrange this for you.

An alternative airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport in France. However, bear in mind that the transfer times take around two hours and 30 minutes. We recommend arranging a private transfer for your comfort, as public transport or coaches are likely to take twice as long.

We have also had guests fly into Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon, Milan and Zurich, though the vast majority of our guests use Geneva Airport as it is the closest to Morzine.

The Morzine ski lifts officially open on Saturday 16 December 2023 through to Sunday 7 April 2024. Depending on snowfall, the Morzine-Les Gets lift network can open at the weekends before or after these dates to extend the season and this will be confirmed close to these dates.

Neighbouring Avoriaz officially opens on 15 December 2023, though is expected to open earlier if snowfall is good. Avoriaz usually stays open until around the 21st of April. You can stay in Morzine and add our 24-hour resort driver service to your stay and we can take you to the Prodains lift, which takes you up to Avoriaz. It takes around 8 minutes by car from Morzine to the Prodains cable car, depending on snow conditions.

Once the ski lifts open, Morzine has a festive buzz and the ski season is in full swing!

Morzine is popular in winter and summer. In winter, there are lots of things to do in Morzine when the ski season is in full-swing and the resort is rated among the best for families. Christmas is magical as activities include ice-skating, sleigh rides and a chance to meet Santa. There are also events including Rock the Pistes Festival, an open-air, high-altitude music festival on the pistes of Portes du Soleil, so you can dance in the snow under bright blue skies. For a full list, read our guide: Things to do in Morzine during winter.

Summer in Morzine is a great time of year if you love walking, paddleboarding, big scenery and being in the great outdoors. The alpine village is popular with hikers and mountain bikers, while families can swim in Lac de Montriond, try tree-top forest adventures and seek thrills on the mountain luge. To find out more, read our Things to do in Morzine during summer.

The village is easy to walk around and all of our Morzine chalets are within walking distance of the centre of Morzine. Free buses run around the resort in both seasons and Le Petit Train can also take you around the resort’s streets. Many of our chalets in Morzine have parking, so please ask for our chalet recommendations if you are driving to Morzine.

In winter, we also offer a 24-hour resort driver service. At any time, call or WhatsApp our driver team and we can pick you up from bars, restaurants or take you to the ski lifts. Our drivers can take you anywhere in Morzine and Les Gets, as well as to the Ardents and Prodains ski lifts (just outside these resorts). Our 24-hour driver service is included with our catered ski chalet stays and can be added as an extra cost for guests staying in our self-catered ski chalets.

Yes! Morzine is great for beginners. Catch the Pléney gondola from the centre of Morzine and, at the top, you’ll find a couple of restaurants and the Tapis de Nabor Magic Carpet. Magic Carpets are great for beginners, as you can simply step onto them and save your energy before reaching the beginner slope! This Magic Carpet will take you up to the original Viking Magic Carpet. Step onto this and it will take you, at ground level, to the top of the beginner’s slope. This makes it easy for newbies to keep doing a loop and is where many beginner ski lessons take place. Those just starting to get their snow legs can find easy green slopes and gentle blue slopes like Zore in the Super Morzine area. Find out more with our full guide: Is Morzine good for beginners?

Reviews From Our Guests

  • Stayed in Chalet Genepi at the start of March for a week and it was stunning. Fabulous accommodation, comfortable beds, a relaxing hot tub and breath taking views from both balconies. The White Company toiletries were an added bonus - beautiful. The staff could not have been more helpful with everything from baby seats to cots, a high chair and stair gate provided. Make sure to book the resort shuttle / taxi service with Hunter Chalets - the drivers were so so helpful and professional. It was such a special week where we all left feeling rested and pampered. The only question now is, which chalet will we try next ?

  • This was our first time in Morzine and as guests of Hunter Chalets. The quality of the chalet and the level of service provided by Hunter Chalets was superb. Everything worked perfectly and we loved the driver service and meal service which could be ordered. We are already booking for the summer

  • Chalet and service was top class. Hunter couldn’t do enough to cater for our needs, even securing a last minute pizza order for 10 people on a Sunday evening. Would highly recommend Hunter and this chalet, and will definitely use again. Thanks Team, amazing experience

  • What an amazing experience with Hunter Chalets. This was our first ever time skiing and the company made it so easy, nothing was too much trouble (even after answering our 2000 questions 🤣) Everyone made us feel special, and the driver service was on another level. The chalet itself was perfect, decorated to such a high standard, it had everything you could wish for on a skiing holiday, from a ski boot room (heated), to an amazing log fire, to a hot tub to relax in after a tiring day. We have certainly caught the "skiing bug" and we would always look to use Hunter Chalets going forward. If we could give them 10 stars we would!!

  • Spent a little time in chalets over the years and this time around we decided to up the anti a little. Looked around at a few companies and Hunter Chalets were definitely up there with the best. We decided on Chalet Genepi, a chic looking property and a short distance from the centre of Morzine. In most cases, photographs of a chalet or apartment are taken in such a way to exaggerate the sizes - not so here. The Chalet itself appears fairly new, is large and beautifully appointed. The games room downstairs with pool table, large screen TV, sofa, outdoor hot tub and open plan kitchen (which turned into a bar!) was a great bonus. All the bedrooms were modern with great en suites and the top floor lounge was a great socialising space and easily big enough for our party of ten. The icing on the cake was the in resort driver service and, whilst an additional cost, made the whole holiday so much better with a true 24/7 service, managed by a great team of on-call drivers. All in all a five star experience with a couple of issues quickly resolved. Would definitely consider using Hunter Chalets again.
