Our favourite things to do in Morzine

SNOW-BASED ADVENTURES

1. Skiing

Morzine’s ski area is great for all levels, and there are easy links to both Les Gets and Avoriaz, so you can ski three resorts in one holiday! Morzine sits on the France/Switzerland border within the Portes du Soleil ski area, so you can actually ski two countries in one day! The two main lifts in the centre of Morzine are Pleney and Super Morzine, and you can easily reach Ardent and the Prodains lifts on the outskirts of town with our 24-hour resort driver service.

2. Snowboarding

Morzine sits between Les Gets and Avoriaz, so it’s pretty easy to enjoy all three resorts during one snowboarding holiday. At the top of the Pleney, there is a Magic Carpet, perfect for beginners; or head up to Avoriz for snowboarding heaven if you love snowparks and airbags to practice your flips and jumps. Morzine-Avoriaz is known as the snowboarding capital of Europe, combining snowparks like Stash and Lil Stash with extensive piste and off-piste runs.

Festival Rock The Pistes

3. Rock the Pistes festival

4. Night sledging

When dusk falls and the majority of skiers are enjoying après ski, take advantage of Pleney’s slopes for a night sledging session. Don a headtorch and enjoy the trails, while being supervised by the piste patrollers. Children aged 8-11 years must be on a sledge with an adult. This is one of the most fun things to do during a visit to Morzine in winter! You can book through Indiana Ventures or our concierge team.

5. Sledging

There are plenty of ski shops selling sledges in Morzine, so pick up a few and head to Pleney. You can go sledging at the bottom of the mountain by the Pleney ski lift, and the bonus is you are right next to Le Tremplin, so you can have a beer or mulled wine while the kids play. Alternatively, join in and then visit one of the local restaurants or cafes for lunch or a chocolat chaud to warm up cold fingers.

6. Snowshoeing

Take a walk in the quiet, snowy mountains during a snowshoeing experience with a qualified instructor and guide. We can recommend a team to help you discover Morzine’s trails, guiding you through beautiful landscapes to help you learn about local nature and discover the scenic mountains. Some of our recommended suppliers offer afternoon / sunset snowshoeing sessions in Morzine that finish just after sunset. You can see the sunset colours, see the lights come on in the village below and experience walking back to the minibus with a headtorch on in the dark! There are easy sessions for complete beginners, up to those who want to push themselves and see more of the mountains.

7. Snowmobiling

9. Birds of Prey experience

1. See Santa in Morzine’s village square

Yes, it’s true, Santa does visit Morzine each year! Around Christmas time, the main square in Morzine turns into an Enchanted Village (more details below). Take a look at the event section on the Morzine Tourist Board’s website for news of when he will be in town. He usually does a meet and greet session a few days before Christmas, then is back again on Christmas Eve to wave at the children from the balcony of the tourist office building and spread some Christmas cheer.

3. Watch the Torchlit descent

See Morzine in all its winter beauty with a paragliding session. Our concierge team knows the best instructors for a tandem flight, and the photos you’ll get will be incredible! The flights tend to last between 15 and 40 minutes and, after the initial adrenaline rush, most people find it a peaceful and relaxing experience. There is no better way to get an aerial view of the Alps from 1200 metres up!

5. Ice skating

Morzine has a fantastic indoor ice-skating rink. You’ll find the ice rink in the Skoda Arena, under the suspension bridge in the centre of town. A small ice-skating rink also appears in the centre of Morzine during winter. In the past, this has been ice or an eco-friendly alternative, so check with the Morzine Tourist Board if you would like further details (or pop to the rink)!

6. Watch an ice hockey match

Head to the Skoda Arena under the suspension bridge to see Morzine’s ice hockey team, the Penguins, battle it out with their rivals. The team currently competes in France’s third tier of national ice hockey – FFHG Division 2 – and it’s a must-do if you love an electric atmosphere. You can find out more about the ‘Pingouins’ on Morzine’s ice hockey site.

7. Visit Lac de Montriond

Lac de Montriond is absolutely stunning and a must visit during your holiday in Morzine. There’s not much going on surrounding the lake during the winter time, but it is a photo opportunity you need to see! It is around a seven-minute drive from Morzine and is en route to Ardents lift. If you have our 24-hour on-call resort driver service, a driver can take you up to the lake and back, or you can easily drive up to the lake from the Montriond end of Morzine.

8. In-chalet spa treatments

If you’re staying in one of our Hunter Chalets with a spa treatment room, we can arrange for our spa therapist to visit you. We have a menu of massages and facials to choose from, or you can book a few hours and split the time between your group. For our full list of spa treatments and prices, take a look at our concierge brochure

9. Spas in Morzine

There are a couple of options for spa treatments in Morzine, including Morzine Day Spa and Little Wild, which both have a treatment room. If you’re looking for a spa with a pool, sensory showers, a hot tub, relaxation room and multiple treatment rooms, we can recommend Sources de Chery day spa in Les Gets, which is around a seven-minute drive by car. We can arrange a spa pass for you and book treatments with their experienced therapists. If you are staying in one of our Morzine chalets, talk to our concierge team to book.

10. Dérêches River Walk

Take the pretty Dérêches River Walk into the centre of Morzine this winter. If you are staying in Chalet Lorne, Chalet Blanc, Four Twenty L’Ele, Apartment Deux Chevaux or Chalet Bobb, it’s a beautiful stroll through the woods past sculptures and you’ll pop out at Parc des Dérêches sports centre, below the Super Morzine lift.

11. Ice climbing

Take to the ice walls with ice axes, crampons and ice screws, while using moves and techniques similar to those used in rock climbing. Ice-climbing is fun but technical, and a possibility during your Morzine chalet holiday. Whether you’re a beginner, occasional climber or an expert, ice climbing offers a unique and thrilling experience.

12. Scenic helicopter flight

Take to the sky and get a bird’s eye view of the Alps and the Mt Blanc massif! This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to enjoy during your winter holiday in Morzine. The helicopter is a Ecureuil B3E helicopter, which can seat five people, and it will take off from a helicopter pad on the outskirts of Morzine village. Ask our concierge team to make a reservation for you.

13. Le Pas de l’Aigle lookout point

Le Pas de l’Aigle is a 10-metre-long glass bridge on Pointe de Nyon mountain, giving you a 360-degree panorama with views over Mt Blanc and Lake Geneva. At an altitude of 2019 metres, you can access Le Pas de l’Aigle by taking the Téléphérique de Nyon ski lift. Either hop on a free bus from the centre of Morzine or ask our drivers to take you if you have booked our 24-hour resort driver service. You’ll then arrive at the Pointe de Nyon area, where you can grab something to eat and have a drink, or hop on the Télésiège Pointe de Nyon to reach the lookout point. The chairlift is a slow ascent, but it’s worth it when you get to step out onto the platform!

14. Biathlon

15. Swimming at Morzine’s Aquatic Centre

Morzine’s indoor pool complex is great for a rainy day activity or time with the kids. Inside, it has a 25-metre long sports pool, a learning pool, paddling pool, and a wellness area with saunas and steam rooms. Find out more about Morzine’s Aquatic Center. Aquariaz up at neighbouring Avoriaz is also worth a trip. Our 24-hour resort driver service can take you to the Prodains cable car on the outskirts of Morzine, which will take you up to Avoriaz. Easter ski holidays activities - Alta Lumina

17. Alta Lumina light show

Although Alta Lumina light show is in neighbouring Les Gets, it is well worth booking during your holiday in Morzine. This night walk through the forest is magical, with lights and music working together to create an enchanting story following the tale of the music maker. This is a great activity for primary school-aged children, teens and adults – though not particularly great for pushchairs, as there are uneven paths and some steps. The best way to get there is via our 24-hour resort driver service. Just give them a call or WhatsApp them and they will be on their way! Our driver service is included with our catered and hosted chalet stays, and available at extra cost for those staying in one of our self-catered chalets or apartments.

Party at après ski spots in Morzine

Les Lindarets is a great spot for a post-ski beer or glass of wine on a sunny terrace. Le Tremplin is also a hot spot after the last lift and located at the bottom of the Pleney slope.
