Les Gets has a high-end feel with stylish boutiques and is very family-orientated, with plenty of easy ski areas to enjoy. Les Gets is just over an hour from Geneva airport, close to the Switzerland border, and part of the famous Portes du Soleil ski area.
Winter brings the outdoor ice rink to the village centre, next to a traditional carousel, and little ones can have a go in the outdoor soft play area in the snow. Les Gets also has a bowling alley and a luxurious day spa called Les Sources du Chéry; and Christmas is a magical time to walk through the snowy woods to see Father Christmas at his home and meet the elves. Things to do in Les Gets during winter
Skiing
Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil ski region, an area that links 12 resorts and over 400 miles worth of skiing, spanning the French and Swiss border. Les Gets has direct access to the slopes and some of our chalets back onto the ski slopes or have incredible views over them. The resort is family-friendly and perfect for beginners, as well as advanced skiers looking for challenging red and black runs. You can find Nordic trails and high-altitude restaurants close by; and reach the wider Portes du Soleil area by skiing over the hill to Morzine. Our on-call 24-hour driver service can also be booked for your stay, a private chauffeur to take you around Les Gets or to the lifts in neighbouring Morzine for quicker access to the Morzine-Avoriaz and Swiss ski areas. Read our full guide to Les Gets ski resort.

Snowboarding
For advanced snowboarders, there are plenty of good pistes to explore in Les Gets in winter; and the nearby Mont Chéry area has a fantastic snow park, which is a quieter experience than the slopes and soaks up the sun most of the day. Intermediate and advanced snowboarders can also give the freestyle Deborah Anthonioz Boardercross slope in the Chavannes area a go, a 500-metre course which is dedicated to the local Olympic silver medal winner.

Learning to ski
Les Gets is regularly voted one of the best ski resorts for families and the village has direct access to a choice of beginner slopes. The Indian Adventure Park offers a fun play area on the slopes with music in the forest and tee pees for picnics. You’ll find the Little Indian Run on the Chavannes slope, a green run that winds through the forest and features tunnels kids can duck through. The Penguin Park is also a highlight for kids, where young ones can gain their confidence on the snow with tunnels, jumps and obstacles.

Cross-country skiing
Les Gets has a choice of well-marked trails on the Mont-Chéry and Chavannes slopes, perfect for Nordic sports. You can access them via the Mont-Chéry and Chavannes gondolas. At the top, there are incredible panoramic views of the Mont-Blanc mountain range. The Hunter Chalets team can also arrange a day trip to the Vallee Blanch; the longest, lift accessible, off-piste run in the world. We can organise everything from your mountain guide to your ski passes for the day; and one of our drivers will chauffeur you there and back. This is a hugely exciting day trip recommended for competent black run skiers.

Bars, restaurants and après ski
Les Gets has a growing repuation for fine restaurants, bars and après ski. New restaurants have popped up over the past few years, as well as coffee shops, health food restaurants and boutique shops.
There are fantastic restaurants both on and off the slopes, with many mountain restaurants accessible to non-skiers, making it easy for friends to join you for lunch. At the top of the Chavannes gondola, there are several restaurants that are great for families and suitable to take a robust pram. Here you can relax in the sunshine and watch little ones learn on the nursery slopes or give sledging a go. Restaurants like La Chasse-Montagne offer a wonderful menu and selection of wines, which you can enjoy on the large sunny terrace. If you’re after an energetic vibe, you’ll find DJs and live performers right next to the Bellevue Hotel at the bottom of the main piste every Wednesday and Sunday night, from 3-6pm.

Visit Santa in his grotto
Les Gets is a very special place to be during winter. The village oozes the Christmas spirit and the nearby forest is turned into an enchanted magical woodland, where you can follow the clues through the snow leading to the home of Father Christmas. You can meet the elves and get introduced to the big man himself. It is a very special place for making family memories.

Rock the Pistes festival
Rock The Pistes comes to the Portes du Soleil area each March, bringing incredible pop-up music venues to the ski slopes. It is one of the most scenic settings for live music, where bands play to those soaking up the sunshine and panoramic views while dancing in their snow boots. You don’t have to have a ticket to the event, but do need to purchase a lift pass to reach the ‘venues’ on the mountains. The past line up for Rock The Pistes includes Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Babyshambles and the Klaxons.

Paragliding
Start at the top of Mont Chéry and fly above the mountains and valley while strapped to an expert instructor. Paragliding in Les Gets is unforgettable and surprisingly peaceful after the initial rush. The flight usually lasts around 15 minutes with a landing just outside the village.
Ice diving
Diving below a lake of ice might seem daunting for some – but for others it’s a thrilling challenge and experience. Ice diving is offered at Lake Montriond and, with the guidance of local ice diving experts, you can enter the water through a hole in the middle of the iced-over lake and feel what it’s like to glide through the dark water.

Les Sources du Chéry day spa
Les Gets has an incredible day spa called Les Sources du Chéry – and the Hunter Chalets team can get you discounted day spa access. Facilities include a salt room, sensory showers, pools, relaxation rooms and a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the ski slopes. If the day spa is high on your to-do list, take a look at our apartment Le Coin Perdu. It is in the same building, so you can come and go in your robe without having to change or go outdoors in the snow. Many of our chalets also have their own treatment room, so ask us if you’d like us to arrange a spa therapist to visit.

Husky sledging
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Your first job will be to help get the huskies ready, putting their harnesses on and bonding with them before your trip. They are big softies and want to be patted – but love to bark. Powering through the forest powered by huskies is an unforgettable experience.

Ice skating
From November through to the end of March, the outdoor ice rink pops up in the centre of the village, next to the traditional carousel. If you’re looking for a big indoor ice rink, head over to neighbouring Morzine and the Skoda Arena, where you can skate or catch an ice hockey game.

This immersive experience combines music and lights to bring the forest to life. It’s a self-guided walk and you can get involved in helping the music maker on his journey. It’s open in both winter and summer in Les Gets, and located next to Lac des Ecoles.
