Les Gets is a village in the French Alps, just over an hour’s drive from Geneva Airport. Les Gets is quieter and more compact than neighbouring Morzine, with an upmarket feel, great restaurants and stylish boutiques. It’s great for a family ski holiday or summer in the mountains.
Les Gets centres around a small high street with a choice of restaurants, bars and a traditional cinema. Les Gets also has a luxurious day spa, a mountain rollercoaster that you can ride in winter and summer, plus a magical light show experience called Alta Lumina. The Chavannes ski lift in the centre of town makes it easy to access the Morzine-Les Gets ski area and offers fantastic opportunities for beginner skiers, including ski play areas for kids. In winter, the ice-skating rink pops up in the centre of the high street and, in summer, you can enjoy a fun water obstacle course on a nearby lake, mountain hikes and bike rides. Our in-resort team lives in the area year-round, so if you have any questions then get in touch and we will be happy to help.
Les Gets is located in the French Alps in the Haute-Savoie department of south-eastern France. The village neighbours Morzine and is close to the Switzerland border. Les Gets is about an hour and 10 minutes away by car from Geneva Airport in Switzerland. Lake Geneva is just 40 minutes away.
Les Gets is one of the main resorts in Les Portes du Soleil, an international ski area that straddles the Swiss and French border. This huge ski area links 12 alpine resorts across France and Switzerland.
The nearest airport to Les Gets is Geneva Airport over the border in Switzerland. The transfer time from there is approximately one hour and 10 minutes, depending on weather conditions. Once you book with Hunter Chalets, our concierge team can arrange private or group transfers to your chalet.
An alternative airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport in France. However, please note that the transfer times take around two hours and 30 minutes. We recommend arranging a private transfer, as public transport or coaches are likely to take twice as long!
We have also had guests fly into Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon, Milan and Zurich, though the vast majority of our guests use Geneva Airport as it is the closest to Morzine.
The Morzine and Les Gets ski area is due to partially open on 14 December 2024 for a pre-opening week, depending on snow conditions.
The Les Gets ski area will open continuously from Saturday 21 December 2024 through to Sunday 6 April 2025. Depending on snowfall, the Les Gets lift network may open on weekends before or after these dates to extend the season. All opening and closing dates are subject to change.
The Morzine-Les Gets lift network usually opens from mid June to mid September (daily), plus weekend openings from the end of May to mid June. We are waiting on exact dates to be announced and will add them here when they are announced!
Les Gets is great for a ski holiday or summer holiday in the mountains. In winter, head to the centre of the high street where you’ll find an ice-skating rink or catch the Chavannes gondola to explore the Morzine-Les Gets ski area, which includes fun snow play areas for kids. If the weather turns, the high street has a traditional cinema, bowling bar and, just off the main road, a luxurious day spa. To find out more, read our Things to do in Les Gets during winter guide.
Year-round, you jump on the mountain rollercoaster and zip down the mountain or head up to Lac des Ecoles and take a magical walk through the trees at Alta Lumina, a light show following the story of the music maker. In summer, life by the lakes is pretty perfect. There’s a splash play area, watersports and even a flume slide into the lake. You can visit the goats at Lindarets, hike trails with astounding views or take full advantage of Les Gets Bike Park, the biggest bike park in Europe. Find out more with our Things to do in Les Gets during summer guide.
Les Gets is easy to walk around and all of our chalets are very close to the high street. Free buses run around the resort in both seasons and the little eco-train can can take you around Les Gets in both seasons and up to Lac des Ecoles in summer. Many of our chalets have parking, so please ask for our chalet recommendations if you are driving to Les Gets.
In winter, we also offer a 24-hour resort driver service. At any time, call or WhatsApp our driver team and we can pick you up from Les Gets’ bars and restaurants or take you to the ski lifts. Our drivers can take you anywhere in Les Gets or Morzine, as well as to the Ardents and Prodains ski lifts (just outside these resorts). Our 24-hour driver service is included with our catered chalet stays and can be added as an extra cost for guests staying in our self-catered chalets.
Yes! Les Gets is excellent for beginners because the slopes are wide and gentle. The Chavannes bubble lift from the resort makes it easy to get up from the resort and from there, you’ve got Magic Carpet areas and another gentle chairlift that takes you to the plateau.
At the Les Gets plateau, Piste 64 is great for beginners wanting to try their first run after the Magic Carpet. The next best one is a blue run called Violette that goes through the forest and reappears back at the plateau.
The Grand Cry and the Mauve slope are good spots for families with younger children, too. The Mauve trail includes a “fauna” zone with life-size animals and explanatory panels and a “fun ski” zone with ski games. This area is accessible via the ski lift at La Croix or the Grand-Cry.

We are currently awaiting the opening dates for summer 2025. From the end of May, Les Gets usually opens the lifts at the weekends only for a few weeks. The Morzine-Les Gets lift network, including the Chavannes gondola, usually opens daily from around the 14 June to 15 September.
Mont Chéry cable car usually opens between 22 June to 15 September. The full Portes du Soleil area, linking 12 mountain resorts, tends to open between 28 June - 1 September. When the dates are announced, we will update them here!
