Looking at Easter ski holidays? Morzine in the French Alps is a great choice, with easy access to high-altitude Avoriaz.
Are you thinking about skiing during the Easter holidays? Morzine is a traditional village in the French Alps with easy access to Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil ski area. So you can enjoy the best of both worlds – a stay in a charming town and great skiing!
Spring skiing brings longer days, lazy lunches on sunny terraces and the chance to ski at higher altitude resorts like Avoriaz, where the snow tends to last well into April. You can reach Avoriaz via the Super Morzine lift network in the centre of Morzine, or by hopping on the Prodains or Ardent lift a little way out of town. The easiest way to get there is by adding our 24-hour on-call driver service to your booking so we can take you anywhere in Morzine and Les Gets during your stay, or by catching one of the free resort buses.
We have chalets and apartments across Morzine, so contact us with your group size and we’ll happily make recommendations for you. Alternatively, head to the bottom of this feature to see the current list of properties available over the Easter holidays.
Easter skiing in Morzine is usually much quieter than the Christmas, New Year and February half-term weeks. Our chalet prices are cheaper too, compared to these other peak weeks.
Just because Morzine’s ski lifts close on 6 April 2026 and Les Gets’ ski lifts close on 12 April 2026, skiing and snowboarding are still possible!
We recommend taking the Super Morzine lift from the centre of Morzine, or taking a short drive (under 10 minutes) to the Prodains or Ardent lifts, which take you up to Avoriaz. The Super Morzine lift gives you a connection to Avoriaz, Chatel and both the French and Swiss sides of the Portes du Soleil – so you could ski two countries in one day!
The temperature is warmer, and the snow conditions are usually wetter on the lower slopes around Morzine town, but Avoriaz is usually pretty snowsure as it is so much higher in altitude and the lifts tend to stay open until the 21st April (subject to change).
From Morzine, there are free communal shuttle buses to the Prodains and Ardent lifts. Alternatively, you can add our on-call 24-hour driver service. Our team of drivers can take you wherever you want to go in Morzine and Les Gets, and each journey is exclusive to you and your group. Our driver team can also take you to the Prodains and Ardent lifts.
Easter Sunday lands on 5 April 2026, so the Easter holidays are around 30 March to 10 April 2026, depending on your school or the area you live in. Our changeover day is a Sunday, so good weeks to look at for Easter skiing are:
By April, the remaining snow on the lower slopes around Morzine town is wetter, so it's best to ski in the early morning or go up to higher-altitude pistes in Avoriaz or beyond. With an altitude of 1800m, Avoriaz has been snow sure right through April until the last lifts close.
As well as end-of-season bar nights and lots of families enjoying the school holidays on the slopes, there are events and activities to enjoy. Here are a few of our recommendations:
The enchanting night walk in Les Gets is open all year round, and it’s a family favourite! Follow the interactive story of the travelling music maker through the trees and be amazed by the magical light show and musical displays. We recommend booking tickets in advance over Easter.
For sporting kids, the Portes du Soleil Course des Champions Race is a fun way to test their skills. On 6 April 2026 (Good Friday), more than 600 children from ski schools and clubs, as well as holidaymakers, will compete in the giant slalom on the Nyon plateau. Champion skiers will also be there to give prizes and sign autographs. Attend as a spectator or register your child at the Morzine Tourist Office.
The 4-season alpine coaster in Les Gets is another year-round attraction. It’s a thrilling toboggan ride down 1,100 metres of track with steep drops to boost your speed. Children aged three to seven can ride, accompanied by an adult, while kids aged eight and above can go solo or tandem.
From the end of March, one Portes du Soleil pass for under 12s is offered free with each adult Portes du Soleil pass. It’s valid for a minimum of five days and adults must be direct family members. It’s a fantastic way to get the whole family skiing at a discount.
The high-altitude slopes around Avoriaz are snowboarding heaven, and the end of the season is popular with locals making the most of the quieter slopes. Jump on board and explore endless pistes, free-rides and parks with longer daylight hours to make the most of.
With quieter slopes and end-of-season prices, Easter is a great time to brush up on your skiing or cut your teeth on new pistes. Our concierge team can book your ski lessons and arrange equipment fittings in the comfort of your chalet on arrival.
Both Morzine and Les Gets offer egg hunts and games over the Easter weekend. Speak to our concierge team or pop into the tourist offices in town and see what’s on. Past events have involved finding hidden ‘rabbits’ in the Morzine-Les Gets ski area for a chocolate reward!
Plenty of bars and restaurants are open in Morzine and Les Gets. Tuck into classic French cuisine or casual burgers, sample offerings from microbreweries or check out the local wine bars. With warmer, sunnier weather, you can sit outside on the terrace without getting too chilly. Let our concierge team know if you’d like to make a restaurant reservation for Easter lunch or dinner.
