Ski holidays 2022 – everything you need to know

After two winters hugely disrupted by the pandemic, will France open for ski holidays in 2022? With borders reopening, the vaccination roll-out and news of the ski lifts opening in December 2021, we’re getting ready to welcome you back to the slopes!

Ski holidays can be incredibly safe, Covid-wise. Social distancing is easy on the slopes, after all, and with a chalet holiday you can easily keep to your bubble. We’ll continue to keep you up to date with ski news on our news page here but, for now, here’s everything you need to know in one place…

SHOULD I BOOK A SKI HOLIDAY FOR 2022?

Absolutely! Our chalets are filling up fast for the 2021/2022 ski season as confidence returns and we rollover some bookings from 2020.

We know how much skiers have missed the slopes and demand means we really recommend booking ahead to ensure you don’t miss out – especially if you are looking for a luxury chalet holiday during the Christmas, New Year or February half-term holidays. You’re also likely to get a better price by acting now – booking ahead often means lower-price flights or ferry crossings if you are reaching us by car. When you book, ensure you’ve got relevant insurance, ideally including Covid and cancellation cover.

WILL SKIING HAPPEN IN 2022?

There’s every reason for confidence that this winter won’t see the disruption we had in 2020/2021. Europe’s high vaccination rates should insure it against full-scale outbreaks and thus against lockdowns and closed borders. As such, international travel should remain a possibility.

When announcing Britain’s roadmap – which was mostly followed – Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that it “should be cautious but also irreversible” – what he intended as “a one-way road to freedom.” The rhetoric here is clear, suggesting that another lockdown is not envisaged.

Morzine and Les Gets have opened lifts this summer, which bodes well for the winter season. After missing two years, the Snowboxx music festival anchored in neighbouring Avoriaz has already announced its 2022 dates – 19-26 March – for a “truly epic week in the Alps” and, as of mid-August, had sold 85 per cent of tickets.

TRAVELLING TO FRANCE: THE LATEST

Here in France, despite well-publicised initial issues in take-up, 57 per cent of the population is now fully vaccinated, as of August 2021. The UK has returned to something approaching normality, easing almost all restrictions, while France currently has regained ‘amber’ status on its entry system, meaning fully-vaccinated Britons no longer need to quarantine on their return. Fully vaccinated British visitors are welcome in France, and required only to present a completed ‘sworn statement’ (déclaration sur l’honneur) form and proof of their vaccination status.

We recommend downloading the NHS App for QR proof of your vaccination in order to enter restaurants, bars, cafes and trains. A print out is also a wise idea, so keep it on your during your holiday.

SKI HOLIDAYS 2022 IN FRANCE

Our beautiful chalets are located in Morzine and Les Gets – both exceptional resorts for a ski holiday in 2022. Compact and cosy, Les Gets has a small central village with plenty of sophisticated shops, upmarket bars and restaurants, and it makes for a lovely place to wander and while away some time when you’re not on the slopes. Les Gets has access to two sets of runs – the excellent black and red runs on Mont Chéry, and the slopes shared with neighbouring Morzine.

In Morzine, part of the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, you’ll find a lively après scene and plenty of activities beyond the slopes. The runs are, of course, the highlight, though, and there’s 600km of terrain to explore on your skis or snowboard.

FAMILY SKI HOLIDAYS 2022

We specialise in family holidays and both resorts are perfect for a family ski holiday in 2022. In Les Gets, kids will love the outdoor ice rink or riding on France’s oldest merry-go-round. There’s also the opportunity to visit Santa and his elves in the forest. Morzine – often voted one of the best French family ski resorts – has tons of off-piste activity, from nature tours to snowmobiling, snowshoeing, tobogganing and even an escape room.

Many of our chalets were built for family time. Our luxury catered chalets in Morzine and Les Gets mean you don’t have to cook for everyone, either, and our expert chefs will create food that your kids will love.

BEST FOR GROUP SKI HOLIDAYS 2022

After such a challenging two years, you deserve to let loose a little – and our huge chalets are the best place for it. We can help organise the perfect family-and-friends reunion for a well-earned get-together. Hire Le Coin Perdu in Les Gets, for instance, and you’ll get your own pool table, poker table, bar and hot tub.

At Urban Corniche, which is a self-catered chalet in Les Gets, you and up to nine other people can also enjoy your own bar alongside a grand piano and indoor swing. Morzine’s catered The Old Macaroni is also perfect for a group gathering. Its lounge doors slide right back for views over the mountains and, in winter, the weekly fireworks display.
