Morzine is an easy-to-reach ski resort in the French Alps, close to the border of Switzerland. Morzine is a short 1 hour 15-minute transfer from Geneva Airport and it neighbours the ski resorts of Les Gets and Avoriaz, so you can ski all three resorts in one holiday. Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, linking 12 ski resorts in France and Switzerland. It is possible to ski two countries in one day.

The nearest airport to Morzine is Geneva Airport over the border in Switzerland. The transfer time is approximately one hour and 15 minutes. If you book a chalet or apartment with us, our concierge team can arrange a private or group airport transfer for you from Geneva Airport to Morzine.

An alternative airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport in France. However, bear in mind that the transfer time takes around two hours and 30 minutes. We recommend arranging a private transfer for your comfort, as public transport or coaches are likely to take twice as long.

We have also had guests fly into Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon, Milan and Zurich, though the vast majority of our guests use Geneva Airport as it is the closest to Morzine.

The Morzine ski lifts are due to open on Saturday 16 December 2023 through to Sunday 7 April 2024. Depending on snowfall, the Morzine-Les Gets lift network may open on weekends before or after these dates to extend the season. All opening and closing dates are subject to change. Once the ski lifts open, Morzine has a festive buzz and the ski season is in full swing!

Neighbouring Avoriaz officially opens on 15 December 2023, though the ski resort is expected to open earlier if snowfall is good. Avoriaz usually stays open until around the 21st of April. You can stay in Morzine and add our 24-hour resort driver service to your stay and we can take you to the Prodains lift, which takes you up to Avoriaz. It takes around 8 minutes by car from Morzine to the Prodains cable car, depending on snow conditions.

Morzine is a popular ski resort in winter. There are lots of things to do in Morzine when the ski season is in full swing and the resort is rated among the best for families. You can ski or snowboard in Morzine and Les Gets ski area (plus Avoriaz depending on the pass you choose), go ice-skating, listen to live music at the Rock the Pistes festival and so much more. Morzine is easy to walk around and all of our chalets are within a 20-minute walk to the centre’s bars and restaurants. Free buses run around the resort in winter up to Lac de Montriond, the Prodains lift and Nyon lift, though they do get busy. Le Petit Train loops from the Super Morzine lift to Pleney lift; or you can walk between them through town, which takes a few minutes. The easiest way to get around Morzine in winter is our 24-hour resort driver service. Our on-call drivers can take you anywhere in Morzine and Les Gets, as well as to the Ardents and Prodains ski lifts (just outside of these resorts). Call or WhatsApp our driver team at any time and we can pick you up from bars or restaurants or take you to the ski lifts. Our 24-hour driver service is included with our catered chalet stays and can be added as an extra cost if you are staying in one of our self-catered chalets.

Yes! Morzine is great for beginners. Catch the Pléney gondola from the centre of Morzine and, at the top, you’ll find a couple of restaurants and the Tapis de Nabor Magic Carpet. Magic Carpets are great for beginners, as you can simply step onto them and save your energy before reaching the beginner slope! This Magic Carpet will take you up to the original Viking Magic Carpet. Step onto this and it will take you, at ground level, to the top of the beginner’s slope.
